Lentil with a Heartbeat

It was a big day for Jason and me. Until today, we only had urine and blood to prove we were pregnant. It just didn't feel real, despite the fatigue and the tight jeans. But it was real. We have a bona fide critter of 6 weeks.

We had our first ultrasound with Dr. Boero, my most favorite doctor in the world. We saw the amniotic sac, then we saw my bowels which I mistakenly pointed out as the fetus. Oh god. Then we saw a heartbeat. Or rather, a slight flicker of black on the screen, which for the life of me I couldn't really see, but Jason swore he did. The doctor informed us that we were at exactly 6 weeks, a bit earlier along that we initially thought. So, we're going back next week for another ultrasound to doublecheck the heartbeat and get a better pic of the critter (size of a lentil bean), cause this one ain't so flattering. Critter is between the + marks. You may have to click on the pic to make it bigger.
Our first baby picture.

Oh yeah, we also got our due date - 9/10/08. Jason and I have a Birthday Book which goes into detail about the personality of people born on specific dates. We don't really like the personality of the 9/10 baby, nor the personalities of babies born within a week before or after (very serious and puts career gain before personal life - YUCK, this is definitely not our kid). So, we're hoping the critter can come out closer to August or mid-September and be a lot cooler. Ya know, more like us.
